Maurice y Katia Krafft son una pareja de científicos, cineastas, investigadores y fotógrafos que han hecho de la vulcanología la razón de su existencia. Juntos completaron más de 800 horas de rodaje de 128 erupciones volcánicas y desarrollaron más de 450.000 películas de gran valor estético y científico. Un viaje por etapas alrededor del mundo, la película rinde homenaje a los dos protagonistas, desde la primera ascensión realizada por Maurice, entonces de 7 años, en Stromboli, hasta su trágica desaparición en 1991 en el monte Unzen en Japón.
