El 6 de noviembre de 1975, pocos días antes de la muerte del dictador Francisco Franco, se estrena en Madrid, protagonizada y producida por el cantante Camilo Sesto, la versión española de la ópera rock «Jesucristo Superstar», originalmente escrita por Tim Rice y compuesta por Andrew Lloyd Webber, una obra polémica que se convirtió en un fenómeno de masas.
