John Brown es un inocente guardia de seguridad que sueña con ser el mejor agente de policía del mundo. Cuando accidentalmente su camino se cruce con el malvado Sanford Scolex será dado por muerto. En el hospital, Brenda Bradford le implantará en el cuerpo 14.000 dispositivos fáciles de utilizar. Cuando Brown despierte, se habrá transformado en el Inspector Gadget, una máquina perfectamente preparada para luchar contra el crimen.
