Película oficial de los XXV Juegos Olímpicos celebrados en Barcelona en 1992, dirigida por Carlos Saura. La estructura de 'Marathon' es sencilla. La ceremonia de apertura y clausura abren y cierran una cinta en el que el atletismo es la columna vertebral del documental. El protagonista es el atleta. No hay diálogos ni voz en off, solo imágenes encadenadas y subrayadas por la música de los Juegos de Barcelona y por el ambiente del estadio de Montjuic. La presencia del cineasta Carlos Saura se ve fundamentalmente en el amor al detalle. Intenta con la película llevar al espectador donde no había llegado todavía. Fue estrenada en el Palau Sant Jordi un año después de celebrarse aquellos Juegos Olímpicos, ante 13.000 espectadores.
