Herman, un tipo extraño y solitario que vive en las afueras de una pequeña ciudad californiana, es acosado por el ayuntamiento para que abandone la casa de su propiedad, que está obstaculizando un plan inmobiliario. Para vengarse, Herman libera una horda de gusanos en los suministros de agua y comida de la ciudad. La gente empieza a infectarse y a transformarse en horribles criaturas mutantes.
