A principios de los años noventa, antes del aburguesamiento masivo de muchos de los entonces barrios marginales de Nueva York, varios jóvenes de orígenes muy dispares abandonaron sus desestructurados hogares y se aventuraron en las brutales calles de la ciudad. Unidos por su afición al monopatín, formaron una familia y construyeron un estilo de vida único que acabó inspirando «Kids», una película rompedora y escandalosa, dirigida por el fotógrafo Larry Clark y estrenada en 1995.
