Película del Club Alpino Francés sobre la expedición francesa para conquistar el Makalu (8.481 m) a través del pilar oeste en Nepal, que comenzó el 24 de febrero de 1971. Compuesta por 11 alpinistas, Robert Paragot (líder de la expedición), Georges Payot, Lucien Berardini, Yannick Seigneur, Claude Jager, Jean-Paul Paris, Jean-Claude Mosca, François Guillot, Bernard Mellet, Robert Jacob y Jacques Marchal (cirujano), fueron necesarias veinticinco días de marcha por los senderos del Himalaya con 460 porteadores y 18 sherpas para transportar 14 toneladas de equipo hasta el campamento base. Finalmente, fueron Mellet y Seigneur quienes lograron alcanzar la cumbre el 23 de mayo de 1971: 8.481 m, temperatura - 30°, oxígeno 30%, sin viento.
