Gail Preston (Rita Hayworth), una cantante de orquesta con no pocos enemigos, es asesinada de un tiro al terminar su segunda canción, "The Greatest Attraction in the World", y el primer sospechoso, Mr. Owen (Dwight Frye), queda claro cuando cae muerto.
